Vancouver Island’s shadowy electronic project Avro has returned with “Psychopathé” — a darkly seductive new single out October 17th via Warranty:Void Records. Blending synth pop shimmer, darkwave grit, and the cinematic tension of Italian Giallo horror, the track plays like a fever dream projected onto a blood-red velvet screen.
Driven by pulsing basslines, spectral synth textures, and a vocal delivery that feels both intimate and ominous, “Psychopathé” captures the unsettling moment when desire turns to dread — like falling for the radiant lead in an arthouse thriller, only to realize something sinister lurks just outside the frame.
“I’ve been a long-time fan of Giallo films — the intense colors, the shadows and contrast, and the surreal mashup of sex and danger,” explains Avro mastermind Adam Percy. “They’re a dark but modern fantasy. It’s easy to get lost in images and miss what’s happening around you; that’s part of the terror and the joy. I was definitely channeling this idea while writing this song.”
Lyrically, the track drifts between isolation and infatuation, breaking through its hypnotic haze with a haunting command: “Dance my love! It’s only fantasy.”
Alongside the single, Avro enlisted two collaborators to reimagine Psychopathé for alternate worlds.
303 Dreams morphs the track into a pounding, late-night techno odyssey — sweat-drenched and relentless, while the Quick Kick version transforms it into an atmospheric, slow-burning score, rich with analog warmth and propulsive, angular beats.
Both reworks heighten the single’s cinematic allure while expanding its reach — from the underground club to the private headphone abyss.
“Psychopathé” is the first glimpse of Avro’s forthcoming album of the same name, set for release on January 16, 2026. The LP promises to deepen Percy’s fascination with neon-soaked nostalgia, voyeuristic storytelling, and post-modern electronic unease.
